The Sacramento Valley Chapter of AFSA and AFSA National are proud to offer a seminar on Keeping up with NFPA 13 presented by AFSA Vice President of Technical Services & Engineering, John Denhardt, P.E., FSFPE. This session will review changes made over time to NFPA 13. Specific changes that will affect the fitter, inspector, and layout technicians will be highlighted. Background information on final decisions made by the technical committees and standards council will also be reviewed.

While this course is not pre-approved for CAL FIRE CEUs, AFSA is a CAL FIRE-approved training provider. See recent changes for this first renewal period only, published by CAL FIRE in 2022: Continuing Education Units. It states:

  • “All Sprinkler Fitter-related courses will be accepted starting from July 1, 2017, until June 30, 2022, from the first date of your certification/license.”
  • “Course must have been taken through a nationally recognized certified trainer no earlier than the first date of your sprinkler fitter/certification license.”

To earn CAL FIRE CEU, you must provide your Fitter ID number when you sign in on the day of the webinar.

John August Denhardt, P.E., ET, CWBSP, FSFPE

John August Denhardt, P.E., ET, FSFPE, CWBSP, is Vice President of Engineering and Technical Services for AFSA. He is a Professional Engineer (P.E.) registered in the District of Columbia as well as the states of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. He is a NICET Level III in Automatic Sprinkler System Layout and Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems and an NFPA Certified Water-Based Systems Professional (CWBSP). He is a member of the NFPA 13 Sprinkler Discharge Committee and is a Fellow in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE). Denhardt is a National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Research Foundation trustee, sits on the University of Maryland Department of Fire Protection Engineering’s Board of Visitors, and is a member of the SFPE Board of Directors. A native of Maryland, Denhardt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland in College Park.
